Abandon bird nest?

Written by Bird Watcher on December 29th, 2009

ladybugluck asked:

mother hasnt been at the nest for days, probably 2-3. Im positive. Its located on the side of our house and she just got too annoyed with our yardwork and dogs, just too much. I took the eggs out, and it happened to be parasitized by cowbird eggs. SO there are 3 little white ones (she was a sparrow), and then 4 cowbird eggs. i have them on a heating pad (on low) and under a heat lamp. How do i know if they are even alive anymore? I dont want to be holding onto dead eggs. I am keeping them in the same upright position, i know about the air sac. I CAN see the embryos in the white eggs, but i can in the brown speckled ones bc its too dark to see through. Any help would be great.

I plan on releasing them to a rehabber.
its been really warm -like 90- the last few days so im thinking they might be ok?
the mother bird hasnt been there in days, ur a *****.there already are 2 eggs that have been shoved out of the nest a while ago smashed and smelling horrible right on my deck. i dont want rotting eggs. AND the particular nest she used has been there for years, and is reused by birds every year. if the eggs just ***** and rot, the nest will be useless. I cant believe how many idiots on answers are ignorant.

* i already made a nest in a shoebox for it
*about 1 inch big

A bird nested on my balcony. What kind of bird is it?

Written by Bird Watcher on December 22nd, 2009

l.marie asked:

It’s been there (nested in a dead plant) for a few days. I think it has eggs there.

I’m guessing it’s a common ground dove or a mourning dove. What do you think it is?
Here’s a picture:

nesting dove

Also, how long does this kind of bird nest and when can I expect to see baby birds?

One more question…how long does it take before baby birds leave the nest? I’m excited that it’s there but my husband want it gone so he can start up his jalepeno garden again. I’m not letting him scare the bird away :)

Does anyone have a wild bird as a pet, like a sparrow or robin?

Written by Bird Watcher on December 21st, 2009

SnifftheSharpie asked:

Like found one out of it’s nest and raised it as a pet? Are they good pets? Anyone that hasn’t experienced it themselves, don’t answer. I know it is illegal. I don’t need to hear that. I’m not planning it myself.

What’s a way to get rid of a bird’s nest that is being built on my porch?

Written by Bird Watcher on December 17th, 2009

jenna – loves TB rays :) xo asked:

EVERY single minute, there’s always a bird on my porch with twigs and sticks building a nest. So far, there’s no babies or anything, but we put a plastic owl and they still keep coming, and we bought a wind chime to make noise to scare them away.

EVERY time we get rid of the twigs and stuff, after about 10 minutes, they come back and there it is again!

Is there any kind of chemical, spray, anything i can put to get rid of them!
Please dont say that i should do the humane thing, and wait it out- because my life is more important that a birds! lol
actually, they are a nusianse, because i cant use my front porch to leave and go into my house if their there 24/7!
OK-first, i posted this question for a LEGIT answer. -NOT to hear people’s rude opinions.
