Most birds require gravity to ingest water. Why can Doves and pidgeons drink with heads down?

What anatomical feature allows this for doves and pidgeons while not for other birds?

The nest is covered over with an entrance on one end and an opening on the other end. These birds were very quiet while building their nest, but usually they are pretty raucous.
What kind of birds are these and why, besides instinct, might they know to be quiet arounf their nests. More clues later.
OK last week. They have nore than one color(not rainbow) They were building where they often do in willows.
I’m in West US. They have a very long tail.
These do have two openings. Other birds sometimes tear the top off of them to make them their own. It might be specualtion on my part, but they are nest robbers so I thought they might know to be quiet because of this.
They are very smart.

I’m just wondering because I have a Robins Nest and it currently left the nest. I worry about it because there are many cats in the neighborhood and I feel the faster it will fly, the faster it will be away from these cats

heres the story:
i new that there was a bird nest in one of my bushes near my garage and i saw my cat getting into it so i grabbed a broom to shoo my cat away. my cat didn’t leave so i bent down to grab it when i heard rapid tweeting noises. i looked over and the bush was right against me. i realized then that there was a little gray bird right barely touching me! now; i hear how a mother bird won’t come back if a human scent is on its baby. but now that my scent is on the bush, and really close to the baby, will the mom come back? i really need to know, or if i ned to take it now and care for it!
p.s. the baby looked like it was old enough to fly, it was out of its nest and right on the edge of the bush. so if i start nursing it and caring for it; do u think it will eventually fly and be able to live on its own??
p.s. my cat has already gotten one of the babys a day ago. but i have seen the mother still fly in BEFORE i got close to the baby.
